Psychiatry

A psychiatrist diagnoses and manages mental, addictive, and emotional disorders such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, other psychotic disorders, substance-related disorders, sexual and gender identity disorders, and adjustment disorders. A psychiatrist is experienced in distinguishing between physical and psychological causes of both mental and physical distress and serves as the medical expert for the mind/ brain/body interface. Psychiatrists are trained to provide a variety of treatments, including various forms of psychotherapy, medications, and hospitalization, depending upon the individual patient’s needs.

 

Pediatric psychiatrists have additional training and expertise in the diagnosing and management of psychiatric disorders that occur more commonly or exclusively in children from toddlers to adolescents, with behavioral or emotional disorders like but not limited to attention deficit disorder (ADHD); eating disorders.

Neurology

A neurologist is experienced in the evaluation and treatment of all various diseases involving the brain, spinal cord, nerves, muscles, and autonomic nervous system, as well as the blood vessels that relate to these structures. These disorders include but are not limited to headache, stroke, meningitis, encephalitis, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and other memory disorders, muscular dystrophy, brain, and spinal tumors, multiple sclerosis, and other systemic conditions, like high blood pressure and diabetes,  with effect on the nervous system.

We have a panel of highly expert clinicians and mental health providers for adolescents and adults who are knowledgeable about the diagnostic criteria for gender-affirming treatment. They have sufficient training and experience in assessing related mental health conditions and can direct primary care physicians on issues such as ongoing care throughout the endocrine transition.

An obstetrician/gynecologist is trained to focus on the health of women before, during, and after childbearing years, diagnosing and treating conditions of the reproductive system and associated disorders.

Obstetrics and gynecology combine the medical and surgical skill sets to manage various aspects of women’s health during the entire life cycle, with particular expertise in pregnancy, childbirth, and disorders of the reproductive system. They are actively involved in preventive care, prenatal care, detection of sexually transmitted diseases, Pap test screening, oncology, reconstructive surgery, and family planning.

A dermatologist is trained and expert in the diagnosis and medical/surgical management of diseases of the skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes. Dermatologists’ eyes are trained to diagnose and treat conditions that affect the skin in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant disorders of the skin, adjacent mucous membranes (mouth and external genitalia), hair, and nails.

Dermatologists are experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of various skin cancers, acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, contact dermatitis,  allergic and nonallergic inflammatory skin disorders, moles, and a number of sexually transmitted infections. In addition, dermatologists have expertise in the management of cosmetic issues.

Pediatric dermatologists have additional training and expertise in the evaluation and management of skin diseases that occur more commonly or exclusively in children like all types of birthmarks, neonatal dermatology, genodermatoses, pediatric infections or inflammatory processes, and pediatric skin diseases with complex medical conditions requiring coordinated multispecialty care.
